it runs in the family
my mom and i are bargain shoppers!!!! last moday, we went crazy at goodwill....i hooked myself up with dishes, three really cool art pieces for my wall, and a plethera of other things (this was before i filed my taxes when i actually thought i had money to spend!!).........and today, my mother managed to get me out of bed at 7:00 AM on my day off to go to rummage sales.....we hit a ton of them before 10:00, and then headed to Ottawa for an auction. Listen to this madness.....we got a 19 inch television for 10 dollars (so i no longer have to squint to see my tv from my couch), a very nice blender for 8 dollars, two VCR's, yes TWO, for 1 dollar (which makes that 50 cents per VCR), a microwave and the cart it was on for 5 dollars (the cart is old looking, but will make a cute plant stand on my front porch), and a really cool glass water jug in a cool looking wooden crate for 1 dollar (ya know, one of those big water jugs, where i will start collecting all of my spare change for my "Escape" fund).
I'm telling ya, thriftiness runs in my family. my mom and i always say that even if we had lots of money, we would still shop at thrift stores, and rumage sales, and places like walmart and target......more for your money!! and you find cool stuff, and stuff you need......my phone charger for my car broke like months ago, so if i was ever driving and my battery went low, i would have to go home and charge it up.......which i realize is not a big deal, but it does kind of suck....but today, i got a new one for a quarter. that's greatness!!!
my grandma used to have a sign in her back window of her car that said "i brake for rummage sales".....at her funeral, my uncle included that fact in his eulogy, saying that "he didn't know what the transportation was like in heaven, but he could bet that whatever my grandma was driving, there was an "i brake for rummage sales" sign in the back window".....i have a feeling the same will be true for my mom, and me, and hopefully my children......thriftiness just seems like a good trait to pass on, doesn't it????
i also got a really nice sunburn on my chest and shoulders, seeing as how it was in the nineties here today.....which i'm hoping will turn into a tan soon so i don't continue looking like i live in a cave...........oh, and i forgot to mention that those dishes that i bought at goodwill are cute, but i paid like a dollar a plate, and i don't know what else for the small plates and bowls.....it wasn't an obsene amount, because i've established what a bargain shopper i am....but the very first rummage sale we went to this morning had a whole box of dishes....one big set....for 5 dollars, which is considerably less than what i paid for mine all together....i was mad. me and mom think the five dollar set belonged to a woman named Hester...curses to you, Hester, and your five dollar dishes five days too late!!!
totally unrelated topic.....movie trivia. Can anyone name this movie? "i once stole a pair of red underwear from a department store. my mother wouldn't buy them for me....she said they were satan's panties."
